Welcome to the 10^th Source of the Nile Trail Run and MTB Challenge

The 10^th edition of the prestigious Source of the Nile Trail Challenge will take place on 7th September 2025.

The Source of the Nile Trail Running Challenge is a prestigious race with the most stunning and scenic trail you will probably ever run in your life! Set at the source of the Nile, Jinja, Uganda, the different running trails will not only take you along the banks of the great River Nile but upon rocky paths past the rapids and up to the scenic hills overlooking Lake Victoria and down through villages and banana plantations. This year we will include a 50km distance for the truly adventurous Ultra Trail runners and 30km Mountain Bike Race. This Ultra Trail race and Mountain Bike Race is proudly organized by Activate Uganda on the 8th of September 2024

Dates & Distances

The Challenge is currently scheduled for the 7th September 2025 and will be contested over a choice of five distances: 5km, 12km, 25km, 50km runs and a 30km Mountain Bike ride.

The start and finish area on the top of the hill was chosen for its scenic beauty, and the technical trails each provide their own challenge. We are sure that each and every participant will enjoy it thoroughly; this is not a race to be missed! Please note, we are planning for 350 participants so please sign up before it’s too late.

Age Restrictions

50 km – 21 years and must have completed a full Marathon in the last 12 months
25 km – minimum 18 years
12 km – minimum 14 years (kids must be in parents supervision)
5 km – minimum 8 years (kids must be in parents supervision)

Mandatory Equiment for 50 Km Race

There will be random checks of mandatory equipment before and during the entire race. Lack of mandatory equipment will result disqualification and No refunds will be offered.
For 50km, your race will start at 6:00am
Liquid Belt / camelback at least 1 liter
Plaster min. 5 pieces
Bandage 5m.
